About the course

This course will provide a comprehensive account of financial remedy applications.  The morning session will cover updates in this area. There will be a rounded update of key case law and statutory updates surrounding financial matters, including the connection with Schedule 1 CA 1989 and divorce matters.  The afternoon session will involve consideration of preparing for financial cases, including use of the pre- action protocol, as well guidance on preparing for the various type of hearings, including the First Appointment and the Financial Dispute Resolution Appointment.

The course will cover a comprehensive account of the law and procedure relating to financial remedy applications. It will cover aspects of a case from first instructions to final order. At the end of the course, there will be more knowledge and confidence in being able to apply for a financial order and to prepare for and present hearings.

Speaker Details

This day course will be led by Safda Mahmood, who is a Senior Solicitor and Advocate in a Local Authority, as well as a nationally recognised Professional Development provider. Safda has practiced and lectured in Family Law for over 29 years and is on the Law Society Children Law Accredited Panel, specialising in Children and Adoption Law. As an author, he has written for various publications, such as Jordans’ Family Law Journal, The Legal Executives Journal, Solicitors Journal and the Law Society and Local Government Bulletin. Safda has also co-updated the title ‘Child Care and Protection: Law and Practice: Fifth Edition and is the Editor of the updated 6th edition of 2019 as well as the Children Law Handbook, 2021, by the Law Society, and Special Guardianship and Adoption Law Handbook, 2023, by the Law Society.

Terms  &  Conditions
  1. Sills & Betteridge LLP will send you confirmation of your booking by email or post within 2 days of receipt of this form.  A proforma will be sent to your accounts department. Once paid, you shall be sent a receipted VAT invoice.
  2. The amount due on any proforma is payable in full within 30 days save that you may cancel a booking provided you give notice at least 10 working days’ prior to the date of the conference.  In such circumstances you will receive a full refund less an administration charge of £25.00 (plus VAT) per delegate.
  3. This booking form constitutes an offer and our confirmation to you constitutes an acceptance of a legally enforceable contract on these terms.  The delegate and employer shall be jointly and severally liable for payments of fees due under the contract.
Limitation of Liability
  1. Sills & Betteridge LLP accepts no liability in respect of any losses both direct and/or indirect if for any reason the conference does not take place.  Sills & Betteridge LLP reserves the right to vary or cancel a conference at any time.  The total extent of Sills & Betteridge LLP’s liability under this contract is limited to the price paid by you to Sills & Betteridge LLP for attendance at the conference.

  2. Sills & Betteridge LLP and/or its presenter(s) shall not be liable in breach of contract, negligence or otherwise for any damages, costs, expenses and/or other losses (both direct and/or indirect) incurred by any person acting or omitting to act in reliance on the conference material or the presentation of the conference as a consequence of or in connection with any error or omission in the conference material or its presentation.
